I was at Costco the other day, doing what I thought would be a completely ordinary grocery run. I had a few things in my cart, and before leaving, I stopped by the refrigerated section to pick up some milk.
As I was reaching for a carton, a man standing nearby suddenly looked at me and said, “You might want to think twice before buying your milk here.”
I was caught completely off guard.
I looked at him, waiting for an explanation. He didn’t look like an employee, and there was nothing particularly unusual about him. He was just another customer shopping for groceries.
Naturally, my first thought was, Why?
Was there something wrong with the milk? Had he noticed a problem with that particular brand? Maybe Costco had received a recall that I hadn’t heard about. Or perhaps he had some personal experience that made him avoid buying milk there.
I opened my mouth to ask him what he meant.
But before I could say anything, he simply turned around and walked away.
No explanation.
No warning beyond those few words.
I stood there for a moment, staring after him while still holding the milk.
Now I can't stop wondering what he was trying to tell me.
Maybe he knew something about Costco’s milk that I didn’t. Maybe there was a completely harmless reason behind his comment. It could have been anything from the price to the expiration dates, storage conditions, or even something as simple as him preferring milk from another store.
But the way he said it made it sound serious.
And the fact that he walked away before explaining himself made it even stranger.
So now I’m curious: Why would someone tell a stranger to think twice before buying milk at Costco, then disappear without giving a reason?
Has anyone else ever heard something like this?
Is there actually a reason to be cautious about buying milk from Costco, or was this guy simply trying to mess with me?
I’d love to hear what you think he meant.
